Overall, Portal 2 is a fun follow-up to the original. If you haven’t played the first Portal game you might be left with a lot of questions, so go watch a primer video on YouTube first if you need to. While we love this game, sometimes it feels more of an extension on the original rather than a completely new game that can stand on its own. As your progress through the levels and get closer to freedom, you’ll unlock more of the story and glean from random conversations between GLaDOS and Wheatly what happened to leave Aperture Science Labs in such disrepair and what the true nature of the tests really are. You take control of Chell with the insane GLaDOS on your heels trying to run her tests, and you’ll have to puzzle your way through beautifully rendered futuristic environments to avoid dangers and certain death.įrom the start you’ll be guided by a sphere named Wheatly that’s kindly decided to help you escape. The game begins as the protagonist Chell, a prisoner of Aperture Labs, is awakened. With its mix of puzzles, action and menacing humor, Portal 2 is one of the games of 2011.Portal 2 lets you blast your way through Aperture Science Labs in this fun follow-up to the cult classic puzzle game. The increased length and expanded story mean Portal 2 is unlikely to be as iconic as the first, but the single player campaign is a fantastic ride, and once it's over there is another excellent series of two player cooperative tests to undertake with two excellently animated robots. The Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device returns and works as normal, but there are many additions to the original's set of tools and traps: there are Pneumatic Diversity Vents, Propulsion and Repulsion Gels, Thermal Discouragement laser beams, Aerial Faith Plates and more. While Chell remains silent, GLaDOS and the personality sphere Wheatley are full of character and are both hilarious and terrifying.
While the original's story was only really hinted at, here it is fleshed out and you will learn a lot about Aperture Science and the characters in the game. On PC and Mac Portal 2 looks great, with rich detailed environments and excellent animation.
